Covid-19 (Feb 24): Record 32,070 new cases, 327 in intensive care

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 32,070 new daily Covid-19 cases was reported yesterday, setting a new record for the second day in a row.

This brings the total cumulative cases to 3,337,227.

Active cases currently stand at 286,567, up 133.2 percent compared to 14 days ago.

Of the active cases, 8,039 (2.8 percent) are in hospital, of which 327 are in intensive care.

Covid-19 wards nationwide are now at 73 percent capacity, with no state reporting bed utilisation above 84 percent.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Penang (2,575)
Kuala Lumpur (2,100)
Negeri Sembilan (1,840)
Kelantan (1,746)
Pahang (1,647)
Perak (1,552)

Another 46 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which 17 were declared as 'brought in dead'.

Over the past week, an average of 42 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 20.5, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 32,534 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

Johor and Kedah reported the highest number of deaths at 8 each.

This was followed by Pahang (7), Sabah (7), Selangor (6), Perak (3), Penang (3), Terengganu (2), Kelantan (1), Negeri Sembilan (1).
