Father, son nabbed over wedding package scam

Kuala Lumpur CCID chief Mahidisham Ishak said the pair had received RM7,265 as a deposit for their services but failed to deliver.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained a man and his son on suspicion of being involved in a wedding package scam.

Kuala Lumpur commercial crime investigation department chief Mahidisham Ishak said the two men were arrested in the Klang Valley yesterday following a police report lodged by a 24-year-old woman.

He said the woman had sought the services of a wedding planner company in May last year.

She had booked a wedding package, which included a hall, catering services, wedding dress and a photographer.

Mahidisham said the woman had paid a deposit of RM7,265 for the service.

However, the men, aged 57 and 25, did not deliver as promised on her wedding. She then lodged a police report on Jan 3.

He said the two men had been remanded for four days from yesterday and that the case was being investigated for fraud.

Police believe many more may have been similarly tricked and have called on other victims to lodge police reports.

Mahidisham also advised companies not to use Covid-19 as an excuse for their inability to fulfil any promises they make to their clients. - FMT
