'Holding their hands tight' - Loh fears losing her kids again

Loh Siew Hong is still unable to believe that she has been reunited with her three children but the fear of losing them again still looms.

“I hold their hands tight. I am afraid of losing them. I am careful. I will make sure not to lose them again,” the 35-year-old single mother told Malaysiakini.

Loh, who works as a chef at a hotel in Genting Highlands, said there is much catching up for them to do as a family.

"We went shopping since I have to buy a lot of things for their daily use.

"My son cried when he saw me paying RM700 at the counter. I asked him why and he replied, 'You are spending so much money on us. You work hard but don't mind spending it on us'.

"I told him that I spent close to RM25,000 on legal fees and transportation to locate them, what is spending RM700?” she added.

Loh, who is on unpaid leave until March 1 to sort out accommodation and schooling for her children, also took her 14-year-old twin daughters and 10-year-old son to Genting Highlands to show them her workplace.

As for the future, she plans to run her own business as she had successfully operated an economy rice stall in Sungai Petani, Kedah, in 2017.

"My plan is to operate a food truck. I have been saving and buying things to run my own business.

"Every month, I put aside some money and buy the necessary utensils. I have even bought an 'ice kacang' machine," she added.

Loh also shared with Malaysiakini photographs of their shopping outing, in which her daughters were still wearing the “tudung” (Muslim headscarf).

"We are happy to be together. We hope no one will disturb us and break us apart again.

"So far no one has called us. I will not force or pressure my children to do anything. They have been through so much. Please let us live peacefully from now on," she added.

Loh's daughters and son were abducted and converted to Islam without her permission by their father Nagashwaran Muniandy three years ago.

The children were then placed under the care of the Welfare Department in Jitra, Kedah.

At the time, Loh was recovering from the physical abuse inflicted by her estranged husband, who is currently serving a two-year prison sentence in Kelantan for a drug-related offence. He is expected to be released in November.

On Monday, the Kuala Lumpur High Court granted Loh's habeas corpus application and ordered that her children aged 14 and 10 be returned to her. - Mkini
