Johor polls: Muda wants opposition parties to unite, negotiations ongoing

The question of whether new political party Muda would be going into the upcoming Johor state election solo has yet to be answered.

However, its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (above), when contacted, said that they want all opposition parties to stay united.

"We want the opposition to unite in fighting against BN's arrogance for forcing a snap election during the Omicron outbreak.

"All negotiations that I am doing with our friends in the opposition will be held behind closed doors," he said.

Malaysiakini contacted the Muar MP to seek his comments after Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim asked Muda to submit their list of candidates and seats for the state election.

Anwar had requested Muda to surrender the list before they entered negotiation.

"Let them (Muda) bring their list to us first, then we negotiate," Anwar had told reporters in Shah Alam yesterday.

Three days ago, Johor PKR deputy chairperson Jimmy Puah Wee Tse was quoted saying that they have started negotiations with Muda secretary-general Nur Amira Aisyah Abd Aziz and state Muda chairperson Mohd Azrul Ab Rahani.

Syed Saddiq had also recently stated that the negotiation between Harapan and Muda was going well.

He was also among the speculated Muda candidates alongside Nur Amira.

Harapan had announced that it would contest all 56 seats in the state election, with PKR and Amanah each taking 20 seats while DAP took 16.

The Election Commission is scheduled to meet this Wednesday to decide the dates for the electoral process.

The snap election has to be held within 60 days from the dissolution of the state legislative assembly on Jan 22. - Mkini
