Malays are apathetic towards graft, laments Dr M

 

Pejuang chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the Malay community had failed by taking the easy way out.

PETALING JAYA: Malays are apathetic towards corruption, Dr Mahathir Mohamad said, adding that such indifference had been detrimental to the community.

He said the community’s apathy had been leveraged on by “certain quarters” to get Malays to turn a blind eye to wrongdoing.

He said it could not be denied that the failure of the Malay community was due to them opting for the “wrong choice” as it was easier to do so.

“The easy way out is always more attractive. You don’t need to dwell on it,” he said in a series of tweets.

He then called on the Malays to join him in ridding the menace. “I don’t think it would be a waste of whatever little time I have left to go all out against corruption among people of my race.”

Mahathir’s latest anti-graft tirade comes two days after unveiling the manifesto for his party, Pejuang, in the coming Johor state elections.

Pejuang’s manifesto includes a pledge to curb corruption.

Last year, Mahathir told FMT that the rise in corruption in the country boiled down to individuals with “criminal records” backing the government. - FMT
