MCA yet to finalise candidates for Johor polls

Hasni Mohammad (left) says MCA needs more time to decide on its lineup, while Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reveals that BN’s candidates will mostly be young and highly qualified.

PETALING JAYA: MCA has yet to finalise its lineup of candidates for the upcoming Johor elections, state Barisan Nasional chairman Hasni Mohammad said in announcing the coalition’s candidates for the polls.

Umno will be contesting 37 seats, MCA 15 and MIC four.

Hasni, BN’s menteri besar candidate, said MCA wanted to ensure that its candidates would be able to fulfil the coalition’s goals in the elections, though Umno and MIC had already finalised their lineups.

Meanwhile, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said more than 70% of BN’s candidates for the elections would comprise new faces.

He also said more than 80% of the candidates were aged 55 and below and possessed high academic qualifications.
