National Unity Ministry to provide aid for burnt down church

The National Unity Ministry will be providing some aid to the church in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam that was destroyed in a fire on Feb 2.

Its deputy minister Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal visited the site of the burnt down Assemblies of God Church today to find out more about what had happened.

“As the ministry responsible for non-Muslim places of worship, we do have some allocations and things to help any places of worship affected by a disaster.

“I went to look at the damage just now and it is definitely a total loss; all the furniture, audio-visual equipment and the premise itself are totally gone due to the fire.

“We do not have a specific amount (to be given). It will depend on the assessment done by the ministry and in discussion with the church.

“We will have to wait for the report from the fire department for us to identify the costs of the damage,” Wan Fayhsal told reporters after the visit.

He noted that initial investigations into the fire showed no signs of foul play, which is good as he does not want this matter to be linked to any religious or racial issues.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department had received a call about the incident in the late night of Feb 2 and had dispatched four fire engines and 25 personnel to the scene.

The incident involved the second floor of a double-storey shop lot, which housed the Kota Kemuning Assemblies of God Church.

The blaze had only affected the top floor of the building, while the eatery on the ground floor of the shop lot was mostly unaffected.

The police had said that their initial investigations have shown no signs of foul play, although the cause of the fire has yet to be identified. - Mkini
