PKR vs Muda: Amanah will support Harapan partner in clashing PKR seats

JOHOR POLLS | Caught in a potential face-off between PKR and Muda, Amanah today said its machinery will be supporting its Harapan coalition partner in any clashing seats not initially allocated to Muda.

In return, Amanah communications director Khalid Samad (above) urged all Harapan components including PKR to support Muda's candidates in four seats originally allocated to Amanah.

“It will be highly unfortunate if this clash continues because Harapan has formed a pact with Muda since the beginning.

“This situation will only benefit BN and PN in those (clashing) seats,” said Khalid in a statement.

“Regardless, Amanah must take a stand to face this possibility. For Amanah, PKR is a coalition partner, so therefore where there is a clash between PKR and Muda in seats that belong to PKR, Amanah will support PKR.

“At the same time, in seats that Amanah has given to Muda, from seats allocated to Amanah, Muda must be viewed as representing Amanah and all Harapan partners, including PKR, must support Muda,” said Khalid.

Harapan's decision to allocate Puteri Wangsa to Amanah, followed by Amanah’s decision to hand over the seat to Muda had sparked unhappiness within PKR.

Through negotiations, Muda was allocated six seats - four from Amanah and two from DAP - while the party's request for three seats from PKR had failed.

This eventually led to Muda announcing its Johor information chief Rashid Abu Bakar as the candidate in Larkin, where PKR has already announced Zamil Najwah Arbain as its candidate.

Muda's announcement in Larkin triggered rumours of retaliation, which saw calls for PKR to field its own candidate in Puteri Wangsa.

Johor PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh earlier today said PKR has decided not to retaliate against Muda out of respect for DAP and Amanah's agreement. - Mkini
