KLANG: Police are on the hunt for two 'professional criminals' who blew up an automated teller machine (ATM) placed at a convenience store in Meru, here, yesterday morning.
The suspects were believed to have made away with RM260,000 from the blown-up machine.
Klang Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner S. Vijaya Rao said investigations are still ongoing to identify the two suspects.
"Based on the closed-circuit camera television (CCTV) footage and videos, the suspects are two men in their 30s, and while their identities remain anonymous, their conversations showed that they may be local men.
"The police also believe that the two suspects have skills and that they are professionals… they entered (the store), broke and blew up the ATM.
"The losses are valued at around RM260,000 and the police are still investigating, hunting down the suspects and collecting information," he told the media after the Klang Utara district police headquarters' monthly assembly, held at the Kapar police station, here, today.
Vijaya Rao said initial investigations found that the criminals did not leave any explosives or other objects used for the explosion.
"We believe that the suspects blew up the machine using a type of gas through a pipe connected directly to the car they drove in."
It was reported yesterday that the convenience store employees had noticed the incident at around 8am, as they were about to open the store. They found the glass door of the shop broken, and the ATM door was left open.
Vijaya Rao said the incident was believed to have happened at around 4.50am.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code. - NST
