PETALING JAYA: A viral video being circulated on WhatsApp of a teenager who died because of the Covid-19 booster dose is fake news, said the Sabah health department after conducting an investigation into the matter.
“The cause of death was a lung infection and congenital heart disease which worsened and not the booster dose,” said department director Dr Rose Nani Mudin.
The teenager’s family had accepted the cause of death, she added in a statement.
According to the statement, the mother of the teenager and Hospital Tuaran verified that her child had not received a booster jab after the first and second vaccine shots.
Yesterday, the mother lodged a police report denying that her child’s death was due to the booster dose.
She said the viral video did not originate from family members of the teenager.
Rose Nani urged Sabahans not to spread fake news on social media that would not only confuse people but also infringe on the privacy of patients and family members, adding that legal action could be taken against those behind the spread of the fake news. - FMT
