PETALING JAYA: Pausi Jefridin, a Sabahan with a low IQ and another Malaysian, Roslan Bakar, are scheduled for execution on Wednesday for drug trafficking, according to human rights activists.

Dobby Chew of the Anti-Death Penalty Asia Network said the group received the documents of Jefridin’s execution date today. “We received consent from Pausi’s family to inform other people last night,” he told FMT.

A Singapore member of the network had said earlier today that Roslan and Jefridin would be executed following their conviction in 2010 on two charges of drug trafficking.

Chew said Jefridin had been certified as having an IQ of 67 but the trial judge had ruled that a low IQ level alone was not evidence of an abnormality of mind.

The families of both men found out about the scheduled executions on Feb 9, seven days before the scheduled date.

Another Malaysian facing the death penalty in Singapore, Nagaenthran K Dharmalingam, 34, is awaiting the results of an appeal.

The case attracted attention because of his lawyers’ claim that Nagaenthran is intellectually challenged, with an IQ of 69. - FMT
