Teen mum remanded seven days over newborn’s death

A teenage girl who allegedly stabbed her newborn baby boy to death in Kemaman, Terengganu yesterday has been remanded for seven days to facilitate a police investigation.

At the same time, the authority is also looking for the girl's 20-year-old boyfriend, believed to have raped her.

According to a Bernama report, the newborn was found dead yesterday morning at the 15-year-old girl's house in Felcra Sri Bandi in Chukai, Kemaman.

The victim was believed to have been stabbed with a sharp object.

The Kemaman police headquarters was notified about the incident at about 10am yesterday, and they have since arrested the young mother and seized several sharp objects which reportedly had traces of blood.

Magistrate Tengku Eliana Tuan Kamaruzaman issued a seven-day remand order against the girl after hearing the police's application at the Kemaman Hospital this morning.

The girl is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

It was also understood that the police are searching for the girl's boyfriend to facilitate the probe over allegations that he had raped her.

Terengganu police chief Rohaimi Md Isa when contacted by Malaysiakini said police has identified the suspect as an unemployed 20-year-old man.

"The girl is underage. Her boyfriend is 20 years old. Regardless, if (sex) was done with consent, it is still considered rape.

“We want to arrest him to facilitate investigation under Section 376 of the Penal Code," he said, referring to the law that stipulates punishment for rape. - Mkini
