Terengganu PKR Youth leader hits back at remarks over sexual harassment report

Terengganu PKR Youth leader Yuslaini Azmi has hit back at rumours and accusations made against her following her sexual harassment report in March 2021.

"Honestly, I try to keep my mouth shut and not talk about this as we are in the opposition bloc, and I do not want it to be used as a weapon to inflame our situation.

"However, I regret the period of my silence (as) I was accused of various things including (being) 'crazy', 'trying to seduce other people's men' and so on.

"There have also been a number of defamatory posts thrown at me from when the case first broke out that still aren't deleted to this day," Yuslaini (above) said, adding that she had lodged two reports on such posts.

In her statement today, she noted that Permatang Pasir state assemblyperson Muhammad Faiz Fadzil had been charged in the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court on June 9, 2021 - with the case still being under trial.

The Permatang Pasir state assemblyperson was accused of using criminal force with intentions to outrage the modesty of a 31-year-old woman on March 8, 2021, between 9.45pm and 11.30pm, while they were both in a car travelling from Sunway Pyramid shopping mall to Subang Jaya, Selangor according to the draft charges sighted by Malaysiakini.

Last June, Faiz had pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to a charge for alleged sexual assault under Section 354 of the Penal Code at the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court.

Section 354 of the Penal Code provides for punishment of up to 10 years jail, a fine, whipping, or a combination of these.

In the same statement today, Yuslaini asked for her coalition partners to stop tarnishing her image with labels with the intention of harming her mental health.

"I ask my party coalition colleagues to give (me) space and stop tarnishing my image by labelling me under various bad things - with the aim of disturbing my psychological (health) and emotions.

"I hope certain individuals who are doing this will stop disturbing the lives of my friends and me by spreading false news about myself," she said.

Additionally, she expressed regret over the weaponisation of her mental health.

"I deeply regret that my mental health issues were used as a tool to attack me on social media and also out there (in person).

"Let this case go ahead as well as possible without opening fire at me. I am sure if we are on the right side, an attack like this isn't necessary and respects the court process," she said. - Mkini
