Two children have died after they were suspected of consuming food from a trash can, according to police.
Langkawi district police chief Shariman Ashari confirmed they have received a report on the incident.
"Our preliminary investigation found the children's father is a labourer who repaired boat equipment and does other village work. He did not have a home and stayed temporarily at his neighbours' house.
"The children were believed to have consumed food waste from a trash can where their father found them," said a police brief shared with the press.
According to the police brief, the children, aged two and four, were found by their 36-year-old father in a disoriented state at around 4.30pm yesterday, near a trash can in Bukit Malut, Langkawi.
The Myanmarese father then brought the two children to a neighbour's home and found that both were foaming at the mouth.
They stopped breathing after a few minutes and local villagers called the police. Their deaths were confirmed at Hospital Sultanah Maliha, Langkawi.
Police said the case was classified as sudden death and the bodies of the children will undergo an autopsy and Covid-19 test at the hospital. - Mkini
