PETALING JAYA: About 30 Zoo Negara workers held a picket outside the zoo yesterday to demand wages which they said have been due to them since January 2018.
Malaysian Zoological Society Union president K Maran, who joined the picket, told FMT that the zoo management had yet to comply with an Industrial Court judgment made in October 2019.
FMT has contacted Zoo Negara deputy president Rosly @ Rahmat Ahmat Lana for comments.
Maran said the Industrial Court had been in favour of the workers’ union in relation to salary increases, allowances and bonuses.
“However, until today, the management hasn’t followed the court ruling. We have asked them to settle the issue but to no avail.
“We have no choice but to hold a picket to demand our rights,” he said when contacted. This is the first time they have held a picket since the court decision.
The workers carried placards at the picket, demanding that the zoo management settle unpaid wages. - FMT
