Judge rejects anti-vax group’s bid to register arbitration award

The lawyer representing a group of 10 applicants said the judge held that the arbitration court did not have jurisdiction.

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of 10 people dissatisfied with the government’s Covid-19 vaccination programme have failed to have the High Court recognise an arbitration court award of a judicial review.

Their lawyer, Zainuddin Abu Bakar, told reporters that Judge Amarjeet Singh had rejected the application as he was satisfied that the arbitration court had no jurisdiction to register the award.

Amarjeet also suggested that they submit their application for a judicial review directly to the High Court according to correct procedure, Zainuddin said.

The group had applied to the arbitration court for a judicial review to challenge the government’s decision to carry out the national Covid-19 immunisation programme.

They claimed that the immunisation programme had resulted in deaths, adverse events following immunisation and discrimination against those who refused the vaccine.

They filed an ex-parte application with the High Court here on March 30 for an order on the right to register the arbitration court’s award of a judicial review, made on March 3. - FMT
