SEPANG: Dr Mahathir Mohamad has ruled out standing in the impeding state elections.
The former prime minister said he would however remain “very active” in supporting the movement championing the Malays.
“No, I’m not going to stand for election,” the former Langkawi MP told reporters at an event here.
Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are expected to hold elections later this year.
Mahathir also poured cold water on Muda’s decision to go solo in the state polls, saying that there was nothing much a party could do if it won a “few seats”.
“You must be in the government.”
