PETALING JAYA: E-commerce giant Shopee says it will take action following reports of child-like sex dolls being sold on the e-commerce platform.
“Thank you for your report. We have informed the relevant team to take further action,” it said on Twitter.
It also advised the public to file a complaint should they encounter sellers or products listed on the platform that do not comply with its policies.
Earlier, social media users raised the alarm on the sale of sex dolls resembling children on Shopee.
A Twitter user posted that her friend came across the dolls while browsing the platform.
“She came across sex toys (which is fine) but what’s not fine is that these sex toys have a child’s body,” she said.
The netizen also shared links to the child-like products, sold by Shopee seller “sexymarina”, ranging between RM1,400 to RM1,500 each.
Product reviews by buyers include that the “quality of the item was as advertised” and “very detailed on every part of the body”.
Based on checks by FMT, the child-like sex dolls have been removed by the seller.
One Twitter user commented that the seller’s account should be reported to Shopee, adding that it was “enabling child rapists”.
Meanwhile, another Twitter user wanted a police report to be made against the seller. “Let the government hunt down the seller and buyers, all together.”
A spokesman for Shopee said the platform had immediately removed the product listings and permanently banned the seller accounts involved.
“This type of abhorrent content has no place on our platform, and we are conducting a site-wide review to ensure our users are protected from such listings.
“We are also investigating the sellers involved,” said the spokesman in a statement. - FMT
