PETALING JAYA: The education ministry has ordered a check on all of its sporting facilities following a freak accident that left an 11-year-old student dead in Sarawak.
According to Bernama, the student was struck on the head by a goalpost that gave way at SK St Anthony in Bintulu, yesterday. He was later declared dead on arrival at Bintulu Hospital.

In a statement, education minister Fadhlina Sidek said she was saddened by the incident and that the ministry will reach out to the victim’s family to offer assistance.
“To ensure the safety and well-being of students, the ministry will ensure that the state and district level education offices, as well as all schools, check all sports facilities and fields,” she said in a Facebook post.
“The sports equipment maintenance SOPs will be enhanced to ensure zero accidents.”
She added that school administrators must remind students to be extra vigilant during extracurricular activities.
She also said the ministry will cooperate with the police in its investigation into the incident. - FMT
