Padu’s e-KYC approved in less than 5 minutes, Rafizi says

Economy minister Rafizi Ramli says the claim by DAP’s Ong Kian Ming on the e-KYC approval is inaccurate.

PETALING JAYA: Rafizi Ramli says it will take less than five minutes to obtain an electronic Know-Your-Customer (e-KYC) approval when registering with the Central Database Hub or Padu.

He said this when dismissing claims that the entire process would take three days.

“Ong Kian Ming’s claim is inaccurate,” the economy minister said on X, formerly known as Twitter, referring to the former DAP MP.

Earlier today, Ong alleged that those who did not register with Padu could see others use their identity cards and postcodes to “register your IC on your behalf”.

Ong said this was because the registration for Padu accounts was done prior to the e-KYC approval, which he claimed would take three days to be completed.

Rafizi went on to say that as of 5pm, over 40,000 e-KYCs had been approved and that about 300 applications were “in the queue”.

“The e-KYC will be processed by an algorithm in less than five minutes, so there is no issue that it would take three days.”

Rafizi’s explanation comes less than an hour after FMT quoted a government source who disputed Ong’s claim.

The source said while the industry standard for e-KYC is three days, it has been “instantaneous” for Padu.
