KKB BY-ELECTION | Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has suggested that Malaysian People's Rights Party (Urimai) chairperson P Ramasamy join the Perikatan Nasional coalition.
Fahmi believed many PN leaders would love Ramasamy for his constant critical statements towards the government.
"This Ramasamy lacks love. So, I think he should try to enrol in PN. Many leaders in PN will love him.
"So, I recommend that he join PN," Fahmi (above) told reporters in Kuala Kubu Baharu today.
The PKR leader said this when asked to comment on Ramasamy’s call for Kuala Kubu Baharu voters not to vote for Pakatan Harapan in the by-election.
Ramasamy said his call was made to teach the federal government a lesson over alleged failures to fulfil its promises to Malaysians.
Fahmi, however, believed that MIC as a partner in the government would be able to rally Indian BN supporters for Harapan’s candidate Pang Sock Tao.
"The prime minister had asked the MIC president and Selangor Umno representatives to come down to campaign this evening.
"They will have a discussion today and tomorrow to strengthen the work of MIC colleagues," he said.
‘PAS aware that PN may lose in KKB’
Meanwhile, Fahmi did not rule out the possibility that the absence of PAS leaders in Kuala Kubu Baharu was due to a realisation that PN could lose the seat.
"I find it quite interesting to examine this PAS boycott because so far today we have not seen any of the main PAS leaders campaign.
"This is the third day and we see how only the main leaders from Bersatu are talking a lot about the absence of PAS,” he said.
"I'm not sure, but maybe they (PAS) see there are issues […] maybe they can already read (PN lost)," he said.
Previously, Selangor PAS Youth denied claims that the party was not involved in the by-election campaign.
Selangor PAS Youth chief Mohamed Sukri Omar instead said the party machinery has been on the ground since April 25.
"Harapan plays up the issue as if PAS is boycotting to show the imbalance in PN.
"Actually, the conflict occurred in the component parties of the unity government because some did not campaign in this by-election," he said, referring to MCA.
PN candidate Khairul Azhari Saut will face three other candidates, namely Pang, Hafizah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (independent).
The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is called following the death of its incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 due to cancer.
The Election Commission has set polling day on May 11 and May 7 for early voting. - Mkini
