Kelantan police are now going after a social media user who accused a teacher at the Mara Junior College (MRSM) in Tumpat, Kelantan, of paedophilia, after finding no evidence to support her allegation.
State police chief Muhammad Zaki Harun said the social media user who made the claims is investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, which deals with wrongful use of communication networks.
“Our investigation found no evidence of any sexual harassment and no paedophilic act committed against the alleged victim, who is now 24 years old.
“It was found that the teacher (accused of paedophilia) is of good character.
“However, we are still waiting for the woman’s (the alleged victim’s) medical examination report,” TV3 reported him as telling reporters in Kota Bharu today.
He said police had taken the statements of at least 14 individuals on the matter, including the teacher accused of being a paedophile.
The teacher was suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
Lewd messages
On March 30, the police announced they were investigating allegations made in a viral social media post on an alleged “paedophile” teacher at the MRSM.
The social media user claimed that when she was 13 and attending the school, the teacher - which she did not identify - would send “dirty text (messages)" to students he found to be “pretty”.
She claimed he was “caught” many times, and that it was “terrifying” to learn that he is still teaching at the school.
“It’s not too late, it doesn’t matter how long ago you graduated high school. I was a victim and my best friends (were), too.
“Please share your story, please talk about this monster, tweet about him, talk about him. Do not let this monster rest,” she posted on X.
In response to her post, other students shared screenshots of allegedly suggestive text messages from the teacher, among others making references to their bodies.
The screenshots identify the teacher, but Malaysiakini is withholding his identity because he has not been formally charged. - Mkini
