PETALING JAYA: Kelantan police say their investigation into a former student’s allegation that a teacher at a Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) is a paedophile, would take about a month to complete.
State police chief Zaki Harun said the probe is still at an early stage with four witnesses summoned so far to assist in the investigation.
He added that more witnesses will be called but they might be residing outside Kelantan currently.
According to Zaki, the police will also go through the text messages shared between the former student and teacher again, Bernama reported.
“We have summoned four witnesses, but their identities cannot be disclosed as the case will be investigated thoroughly.
“We urge anyone with information on this case to come forward and assist in the investigation. This is to help us determine the veracity of the claims by the victim,” he was quoted as saying.
On March 28, a social media user claimed that a teacher at the MRSM was “clearly a paedophile and has been proven to be a paedophile” yet was still attached to the school in Tumpat.
The former student claimed she had been warned the teacher concerned would send lewd texts if he found a student to be pretty.
In a later posting, she said she was looking for a lawyer who could provide pro bono services as she was facing a RM3 million lawsuit (by the teacher) for defamation.
Police have confirmed receiving reports from a student who alleged she was a victim and also from a teacher who claimed criminal defamation.
Yesterday, Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said he had ordered a thorough investigation and that the teacher has been suspended until the probe is completed. - FMT
