PETALING JAYA: The shortcomings of the unity government in managing the economy will work to Perikatan Nasional’s advantage in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, says PN candidate Khairul Azhari Saut.
Khairul, who is challenging for the seat held by DAP since 2013, expressed confidence that the opposition coalition would be able to wrest the seat, and that the by-election would be a referendum on the unity government.
“Considering the current economic conditions, everyone would be burdened by the high cost of living and depreciation of the ringgit,” he said, according to Berita Harian.
The by-election on May 11 is a four-cornered fight between Khairul, Pakatan Harapan’s Pang Sock Tao, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainuddin and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.
The seat fell vacant following the death of three-term DAP assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on March 21. - FMT
