In a statement, Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad said a man and a woman were arrested and a car was seized at a house in Tanjung Tokong, Penang, at about noon today.
He said the interrogation of the duo led to another raid at about 12.55pm at another house in Jalan Tanjung Tokong in George Town.
“During the raid, the police successfully arrested a 38-year-old man, believed to be the main suspect in the case,” Hamzah said.
He said police also detained three other men at the house. They are believed to be the suspect’s friends.
“With the arrest of the main suspect, this case is considered resolved less than 24 hours after receiving information about the stabbing incident,” Hamzah said.
Earlier today, Bernama reported that police had arrested eight people, aged between 22 and 58, in several raids around Pulau Tikus last night to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Northeast district acting police chief Lee Swee Sake was quoted as saying that the police was tracking down the main suspect, who was believed to have stabbed the victim several times with a sharp weapon.
Lee said, of the eight arrested, four were members of a family who owned a shop, one was a worker at the shop, while three others worked at a motorcycle workshop next door.
He said the victim was believed to have been working at the shop when one of the suspects entered and attacked him before fleeing.
The 48-year-old victim was taken to a private clinic but died while waiting to get treatment. - FMT
