KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has issued a firm warning that slanderous politics in the country has reached an alarming level and must be countered with courage and honesty.
"Stop whispering behind closed doors.
"If you have the courage, come forward.
"Don't fabricate stories to tarnish the country or individuals just because you're desperate to chase power.
"Courage comes from truth. I'm not afraid. I've always been outspoken.
"We must unite against the increasingly chronic and rampant culture of slander," he said in a statement after attending the engagement session with Selangor PKR leadership in Shah Alam today.
Ramanan, who is also deputy entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister, said everyone has the right to speak up, as it is part of the democratic process, but warned against misusing that process to twist facts in pursuit of political attention.
The Sungai Buloh MP said party members must step forward to empower the party.
"Don't dwell on the past. Political stability is crucial for the country.
"This party is our party, our home.
"Let us defend it together under the leadership of (president) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim."
He said the party president frequently reminds grassroots members to move forward and organise the party's machinery.
Therefore, he said, PKR must build a strong and united team to face the challenges of the upcoming 16th general election. - NST
