Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching has urged all parties to avoid using inappropriate or discourteous language in public statements when asked about the controversies surrounding Community Communications Department (J-Kom) director-general Hisyamuddin Ghazali.
She also said remarks that could touch on sensitivities involving race, religion and royalty (3R) should be avoided.
“My advice to everyone is not to use inappropriate language and to avoid 3R issues, not only during election campaigns but at all times,” she was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Teo said she has yet to meet Hisyamuddin to convey the advice in person.
Hisyamuddin was appointed J-Kom director-general on June 9, replacing Ismail Yusop.
‘Cina sesat’ remark
Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that Hisyamuddin denied allegations that he had made racist remarks against the Chinese community, saying his “Cina sesat” (lost Chinese) comment had been deliberately misrepresented.

Hisyamuddin, better known as Syam Ghaz, said his Facebook post on Saturday was directed only at two individuals, social media personalities Eric See-To and Albert Tei.
The J-Kom chief’s post, which was twice edited to remove the words “Cina” and “balaci” (lackeys), drew condemnation from various quarters, including politicians from both the government and opposition.
Despite the removal of the terms, the changes remain visible in the post’s edit history.
Hisyamuddin said attempts to portray the post as an attack on the Chinese community were unfair, stressing that he had no intention of offending any ethnic group.
However, he also apologised for any misunderstanding. - Mkini
