
KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are forecast to hit several districts across 7 states until 9pm tonight.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in a Facebook post, the areas in Kedah expected to be affected are Sik and Baling, while in Perak, the areas are Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim.
In Kelantan, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Jeli, Tanah Merah and Gua Musang. Meanwhile in Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman will be affected. In Pahang, Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Kuantan and Pekan will be affected.
"In Sarawak, similar weather is expected in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan (Samarahan and Asajaya), Sibu (Kanowit), Mukah (Dalat and Mukah), Kapit (Song), Bintulu (Sebauh), Miri (Telang Usan, Miri and Marudi), and Limbang.
"Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in Sabah are expected to affect the inland areas, the west coast and Sandakan (Tongod), apart from Labuan," MetMalaysia stated.
MetMalaysia said warnings are issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that are occurring or expected to last for more than an hour.
"Thunderstorm warnings are short-term warnings valid for no more than 6 hours," it added. - NST
