Hoax bomb threat at Mid Valley City

 Brickfields police chief Hoo Chang Hook says no explosives, suspicious objects, or bomb-related devices were found at the location.

A netizen had posted photos on Threads showing a police presence at the premises and areas cordoned off to the public, claiming there had been a bomb threat.

Police confirmed receiving a report yesterday about an email claiming that a bomb had been planted at Centrepoint South Tower, Mid Valley City in Kuala Lumpur, but said the threat is believed to have been a hoax.

Brickfields police chief Hoo Chang Hook said a call about the email was received at 8.17pm last night.

He said the building was immediately evacuated as a safety precaution, and the police bomb disposal and K9 units conducted a thorough inspection of the premises at about 10.30pm.

“The search found no explosives, suspicious objects, or bomb-related devices at the location,” he said in a statement.

Hoo said preliminary investigations indicated that the threat was likely a hoax, sent via email with the intention of causing fear and disrupting public safety.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for the misuse of network facilities and Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication.
