Kian Ming’s prediction spurs PH to campaign harder, says Fahmi

The PH communications director says voters, not political forecasts, will determine the outcome of the Negeri Sembilan polls.

PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil said Ong Kian Ming’s projection could encourage the coalition’s candidates to step up efforts to engage with voters, especially fence-sitters.
JEMPOL:
Former Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming’s projection that Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) can win up to 25 seats together in the Negeri Sembilan state election will motivate Pakatan Harapan to campaign harder, says PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi said the projection had also become a challenge for the coalition’s candidates to step up efforts to engage with voters, particularly those who are undecided.

“The ones who determine whether a candidate or party wins in an election are voters who come out to vote, not political studies or predictions.

“So far, when we look at the mood, especially among fence-sitters, it has been quite positive. Ultimately, it is up to voters to decide,” he told reporters after attending a campaign event with the Felda Bukit Rotan Barat community.

In his projection, Ong also predicted that PH would win only 11 to 13 of the state’s seats, with PKR securing just one while the rest would go to DAP.

He said the BN-PN electoral cooperation gave both coalitions an advantage by preventing a split in Malay votes, which had previously benefitted PH in several constituencies.

Separately, Fahmi said the performance of menteri besar Aminuddin Harun’s administration would be PH’s main defence against BN-PN’s challenge.

He said that under Aminuddin’s administration, the state’s revenue, government reserves, zakat collection and investments had all increased, while the state government had avoided corruption scandals.

“We have seen Tok Min’s (Aminuddin’s) administration successfully resolve many issues. Revenue has increased, reserves have increased, zakat has increased, and investments have also increased.

“He has also not faced issues that were previously associated with past leaders. Despite facing various criticisms, he remained calm and continued to carry out his duties,” he said. - FMT
