
A video posted by Threads user @wanakmal_wz showed people at the park stopping their morning activities when the anthem began playing during a kindergarten sports event held nearby.
Among those seen standing still were Malaysians from different ethnic backgrounds, with some appearing to sing along to the anthem.
"Today, there was a kindergarten sports event at Taman Tasik Danau Kota. As soon as Negaraku started playing, everyone stopped their recreational activities for a moment," the user wrote.
The video has since garnered more than 44,000 views and 2,900 likes.
Many users in the comments said the spontaneous display left them feeling proud and sentimental.
"I like moments like this. Proud to be Malaysian," user @nxr.rebelnxr wrote.
Another user, @zikry.hamedi, said it was heartening to see Malaysians from different backgrounds stop, stand and sing along to Negaraku, describing it as a "truly Malaysian" moment.
User @slowrunnersss said it was heartening to see people at the park standing in respect despite not being part of the event.
"Good to see those who came to the lake also standing to respect Negaraku. Well done, Malaysians," the user wrote.
The simple gesture offered a glimpse of Malaysians' pride in the country as Malaysia prepares to enter Merdeka month in August. - NST
