3,000 applicants still on DBKL’s PPR waiting list

About 3,000 applicants remain on the waiting list for units under the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) managed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), says federal territories minister Hannah Yeoh.

She said the waiting list for PPR units in the capital remained lengthy, with priority given to B40 applicants who met DBKL’s criteria.

“Current PPR allocations also involve police and fire department personnel as we want enforcement authorities to be present within the community to provide assistance. Several units have also been reserved for fire victims or families who have lost family members,” she told reporters after a working visit to PPR Seri Pantai in Pantai Dalam, here.

Also present was Kuala Lumpur mayor Fadlun Mak Ujud.

Yeoh handed over PPR offer letters to 29 recipients for vacant units during the event, as well as offer letters for the occupation of hawker centre premises to 40 local traders from eight parliamentary constituencies in Kuala Lumpur.

She also announced that maintenance and upgrading works at PPR Seri Pantai, costing almost RM2.6 million had been completed under a RM300 million allocation to upgrade all public housing and PPR units in Kuala Lumpur.

Yeoh said the works included upgrades to lifts, road resurfacing, lighting systems, water pump systems, children’s playgrounds and fire prevention systems.

PPR Seri Pantai, which opened in 1998 and has 936 residential units, is among 25 of 64 public housing and PPR projects that have been upgraded. The remaining projects are expected to be completed by the end of this year. - FMT
