N SEMBILAN POLLS | Pakatan Harapan’s candidate Yew Boon Lye, who is defending his Chuah seat, has denied allegations that the coalition distributed cash to voters.
This followed viral videos and photos on social media purportedly showing voters lining up at a restaurant in Bukit Pelanduk to receive money.
MCA’s official media platform shared the visuals on Facebook along with a caption claiming that a political party was engaging in vote-buying.
While the post stopped short of naming the alleged party, it appeared to imply PKR, given that only PKR and MCA are contesting the Chuah seat.
When contacted by Malaysiakini, Yew said he has not seen the videos but asserted that his team had nothing to do with such activity.
He said PKR lacks the resources to pull such tactics.
“No, we did not (give money to voters). PKR does not even have the money; even I am having a headache to (fund) my campaign.
“I have no idea who did this. We do not have any information, and I hope it does not happen again,” Yew said last night.
The candidate said he will lodge a police report and welcomed authorities to investigate the incident. A press conference on the issue will also be held.
In one of the viral videos, people were seen crowding around individuals sitting at several tables in the restaurant, with one of them taking a photo of a MyKad using a smartphone. A still photo also showed at least three pieces of RM100 notes in an envelope.

Asked to comment on the matter, Election Commission deputy chairperson Azmi Sharom urged those who witness such activity to report to MACC.
“If anyone witnesses a bribery act, they should lodge a report with MACC,” he said.
Meanwhile, MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon said the party will lodge a police report on the incident.
