SEREMBAN: A police report has been lodged against Jempol MP Datuk Shamshulkahar Mohd Deli for remarks allegedly made while campaigning in Seremban Jaya, said Dep Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad.
The Negri Sembilan police chief said the report was lodged by a 55-year-old man who watched a video of Shamshulkahar's speech.
He said an investigation paper has been opened and the case is being probed under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for making statements conducive to public mischief.
The case is also being investigated under Section 4 (A) of the Election Offences Act 1954 for promoting feelings of ill-will or hostility and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities and services.
"Overall, we received nine reports on Tuesday where three investigation papers were opened.
"Since nomination day, we have received 62 police reports and opened 19 investigation papers related to election offences," he said on Wednesday (July 29).
DCP Alzafny said police would continue enforcement and ensure compliance throughout this state election.
"The public is advised to continue to comply with the law, respect the democratic process and give full cooperation to the police to ensure the election takes place in a peaceful, harmonious and orderly environment," he added.
Negri Sembilan goes to the polls on Saturday (Aug 1). - Star
