PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Government has agreed to relinquish its rights over the former Rajang Area Security Command (Rascom) site in Sibu to the Sarawak government..
The decision was approved by the Cabinet at its meeting on Wednesday, the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES) said in a statement on Thursday (July 30).
The land transfer involves four areas in Sibu: Nanga Tada, Nanga Jagau, Nanga Ngungun and Nanga, covering a total of 3,655.6ha.
NRES said the move reflected the Federal Government's continued commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Sarawak government and the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
It added that since 2023, the Federal Government had approved the return of 64 federally owned land lots in Sarawak to the state government.
"The government remains committed to ensuring that the management of Federal Government land and assets is carried out efficiently, transparently and in the spirit of cooperation between the Federal and state governments for the benefit of the people and the nation's prosperity," the statement said. - Star
