
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar on Friday as the greenback weakened following weaker US economic data, said an analyst.
As at 8am, the local currency was 4.0800/4.0885 firmer versus the greenback from 4.0875/4.0930 at yesterday’s close.
Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Afzanizam Rashid said the US Dollar Index (DXY) fell 1.01% to 99.864 points as the latest economic indicators suggested that the US economy had cooled in the second quarter of 2026 (Q2 2026). - FMT
