Probe claims of vote-buying in Negeri Sembilan, urges Zahid

Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged the authorities to immediately investigate allegations of vote-buying in the final stages of the campaign for the Negeri Sembilan state election.

He said police reports had been lodged, accompanied by evidence and statements from witnesses.

Zahid stressed that immediate action should be taken to address violations of the Election Offences Act 1954.

He said based on information received from Negeri Sembilan Umno chief Jalaluddin Alias, such activities had become more brazen in the last two to three days.

“As the situation becomes more desperate, various tactics are being used in the final stages of the campaign. I hope the authorities will take immediate action,” he said after an event at the Gemencheh Mara Junior Science College here.

On Tuesday, Pakatan Harapan communications director Fahmi Fadzil urged the Election Commission to investigate allegations that early voters in the Negeri Sembilan election were offered bribes.

Police today also opened an investigation into allegations that a Negeri Sembilan election candidate contesting the Labu seat had bribed voters.

State police chief Alzafny Ahmad said police received 80 reports and opened 23 investigation papers related to election offences from July 18 until yesterday.
