SUBANG JAYA: Police are probing the circulation of a video on social media involving headscarves bearing depictions of the Jalur Gemilang with missing elements that were sold at a supermarket here.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said they received a report at 4:49pm yesterday.

He said preliminary investigations found that some of the headscarves bore depictions of the Jalur Gemilang with missing elements and that they had been received from a supplier.

"The supermarket took immediate action by removing the headscarves with incomplete patterns from the sales area to prevent them from being sold to the public," he said in a statement.

Wan Azlan said police were investigating the case under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, which covers the improper use of the Jalur Gemilang.

"If convicted, the offender faces a fine of up to RM20,000 or a jail term of up to three years, or both," he said.

He said investigations were also being conducted under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentionally insulting another person with the intention of provoking a breach of the peace.

"If convicted, the offender faces a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both," he said.
