Tee sacked as Klang municipal councillor

Tee Boon Hock has been sacked as Klang municipal councillor after investigations found that he had breached the state government's code of ethics.

NONESelangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim (left) said Tee had flouted the code by issuing support letters for business opportunities.

"I also want to remind all councillors not to abuse their powers for personal and family members' interests and to also avoid issuing letters of support for business purposes," said Khalid after chairing a state executive council meeting today.

He said the state government would leave it to the police to decide if there was any criminal element involved in the matter.

“As a state that prioritises accountability and responsibility, the government will not compromise on corrupt practices at all levels.

“The state government is committed to bringing reforms to clean up the Selangor administration and to ensure it is free from corruption and abuse of power,” Khalid said.

He also said that he would be informing the president of the Klang Municipal Council of the state exco decision.

dap disciplinary committee on tee boon hock 310710 tan kok wai 1On Aug 7, the DAP disciplinary committee headed by Tan Kok Wai expelled Tee (right) from the party because they found him culpable in issuing a support letter to a company in which his son has an interest.

The controversy surrounding Tee surfaced late last month when English-language daily Star front-paged allegations that a 'rogue' DAP councillor was misusing his office and exco member Ronnie Liu's letterhead and seal to issue support letters to business people close to him.

Numerous police reports by several parties ensued including one filed by Liu on the matter. Tee was also Liu's special assistant at his Pandamaran service centre.

Liu not involved in decision

However, Khalid insisted that Liu was not involved in the decision-making process for Tee's fate as councillor.

“When we were discussing about Tee, we had asked Liu to leave the room. We know that Liu has an interest in this case and that he has made several public statements about the matter,” said Khalid.

He also said that no action will be taken against Liu, but did not elaborate further.

In the meantime, Liu refused to comment on the sacking since he is the main complainant.

However, he told Malaysiakini that Tee can still appeal to the party disciplinary committee on DAP's decision to sack him from the party.

On the councillor post which is now vacant, he said the party will recommend another candidate for the state government to appoint, but said that the party has yet to decide on a name.

Tee also refused to comment on his sacking from the councillor post.

When asked about Khalid's statement that he had “breached the code of ethics”, Tee said it is up to the MB to decide and interpret on it.
