Leaders of Muslim NGOs have been asked to review the Islamic Fashion Festival, a fashion show under the patronage of Rosmah Mansor, the wife of Prime Minister Najib Razak, for allegedly breaking core taboos and insulting Islam.
In particular, critics were incensed that the name of the Prophet Muhammad was embossed on the chest portion of the attire worn by a model, who was also not appropriately covered according to the Muslim regulations.
"We marched to protest at the cartoon of the Prophet made in Denmark, yet here in Malaysia itself, the pride of the entire Islamic community worldwide has been tarnished by the Islamic Fashion Festival," Harakahdailyreported PAS MP for Titiwangsa Lo'Lo' Ghazali as saying.
Islamic only in name
She pointed out that the Festival - held in Monte Carlo in August - was Islamic only in name, but the fashion it displayed completely contradicted Islamic rules, while Rosmah herself was not appropriately dressed when she launched the show.

"I obtained information that many Muslim NGOs were asked to sign a memorandum supporting the PM's budget. Now, I want to ask these NGOs, why didn't they protest Rosmah's Islamic Fashion Festival as it clearly went against all the teachings and principles of our Islamic guidelines?"
