SHAH ALAM — The Selangor government will commence a probe into allegations that the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) is under the control of “mafia groups” which are determining how bazaar trading lots for the upcoming Deepevali festival should be distributed around the city of Klang.

The Selangor menteri besar’s political secretary Faekah Hussin said the matter arose after several individuals came to the Menteri Besar’s office to complain that these “mafia groups” had interfered when the drawing of lots for the bazaars were held by MPK.

She said the MPK officials involved had been called in for questioning and assured the public that the state government would not tolerate many abuse in the awarding of the bazaar lots.

“We will get to the bottom of this and anyone found to have broken any rules will be severely dealt with,” she said in a statement here today.

The bazaar lots are sought by many as they can be assured of making a pile during the festival period. — Bernama
