Malaysia’s Parliament came to a halt on Wednesday and had to be adjourned due to a power failure, prompting sharp rebuke from lawmakers upset because the government had just lavished a huge amount on repairs.
“Over RM100 million spent on various repairs recently but Parliament is more rickety than ever. The Parliament is now a symbol of the lousy maintenance culture in Malaysia,” an irate Ipoh Timur MP Lim Kit Siang said on Twitter.
“It is the latest example that Malaysia is heading towards a failed state. Black-out and break-down of audio and video system. Meetings disrupted since noon.”
According to Bernama, the power failure occurred at 11.58am when Agriculture and Agro-based Industry minister Noh Omar was winding up the debate on the Supply Bill 2011.
Speaker of the House Pandikar Amin Mulia then adjourned sitting.
