KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 — The Barisan Nasional today launched the new charter based on the 1Malaysia concept which, among others, reflected the determination to emphasise on efforts to further enhance race relations.
The charter, which was launched at the conclusion of the one-day BN Convention at the Wisma MCA, here also emphasised on efforts at preventing and opposing all forms of extremism and racism in the interest of solidarity for a plural society based on the 1Malaysia concept.
The BN Charter was read by BN executive secretary Datuk Abu Khamis and followed by 2,340 delegates, before it was handed over to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also the BN chairman, for his signature.
The seven-point charter also gave emphasis on upholding the sanctity of the Constitution and sovereignty of the law, respecting the rights and privileges of every citizen, recognising equality between the people in terms of the law, ensuring freedom of a peaceful, stable, prosperous and safe community.
In addition, the BN charter also stressed on efforts to develop the national economy through better competitiveness, besides giving commitment to a fair distribution of the economy and maintaining sustainability of the environment, avoiding the participation of all races in every sector of the economy in a balanced manner to ensure that the prosperity and wealth of the country could be enjoyed by everyone.
The fourth principle of the charter also reflected the BN’s pledge to ensure quality education for everyone, strengthen the enculturation of knowledge as the basis for the formation of a competent human capital and ensure that national education became the main vehicle in the formation of a noble being for national strength.
The BN also pledged to continue the tradition of championing the cause of the people by giving emphasis on economic development and social welfare, improvement in basic infrastructure, and to make quality of life of the people as the main yardstick for the performance of the BN government.
The BN charter also stressed on the need to strengthen the family institution, promoting the participation of women, youths, the handicapped and the household in an effective manner in developing the young generation and a civil society as the main partner in nation building.
The seventh principle was the pledge by the BN to uphold the principles of good governance and rejecting corrupt practices, support and assist in raising the integrity and efficiency of the government agencies in delivering the best service to the people and appreciating the concept of “People First” as the basis for the creation of a government that gave priority to achieving the needs and aspirations of the people. — Bernama
