Lembah Pantai PKR chief Nurul Izzah Anwar today texted Surendran’s details.
“No. Anggota: W080004265 Nama: N. Surendran Cabang: Lembah Pantai,” Nurul Izzah, who is also Lembah Pantai MP, told The Malaysian Insider. She is currently overseas.
The past week Gobalakrishnan has upped the vitriol on Surendran, the party leadership and even Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He ignored pleas for a ceasefire, choosing instead to challenge Surendran to prove his membership.
Nurul Izzah's input to support her fellow PKR vice-president will enhance Surendran's legitimacy in the feud.
Gobalakrishnan has also sarcastically suggested that Anwar could likely manipulate the party’s electoral roll.
“I know there are means to slot his name or any name in the voters list if Anwar wishes to do so,” he said yesterday.
The Padang Serai MP claimed that Surendran had never voted in any PKR division or attended any divisional meetings during the party elections last month.
PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution told The Malaysian Insider today that action had to be taken against Gobalakrishnan, saying that a decision will be reached during the party’s political bureau meeting on January 7.
“There has been a lot of unhappiness among party members..As a senior leader from the reformasi days, to come out with statements like this, you are frustrating party members and not helping the party.
“Why must you keep on harping the membership issue? It is not an issue,” said Saifuddin.
Gobalakrishnan’s statements have been in clear contradiction of his party leadership’s stand on the matter.
Yesterday, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution confirmed with The Malaysian Insiderthat Surendran was a registered member with the PKR Lembah Pantai division.
Anwar has also responded to the issue by defending the party’s surprising decision to appoint Surendran into a vice-president’s post by calling the civil rights lawyer “qualified” and “credible”.
Surendran has also responded to Gobalakrishnan’s claims by accusing the outspoken lawmaker of “ranting”, adding that he did not view the attacks as a cause for concern. - Malaysian Insider
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 — In a bid to end N. Gobalakrishnan’s attacks against PKR vice-president N. Surendran, the latter’s division chief has confirmed his membership.
