Why no action against fake IC holders?

By Dominic Legeh

KOTA KINABALU: A member of Parliament from Sabah is curious why the authorities have failed to act against “citizens” in the state with fake Malaysian identification documents.

Eric Majimbun, who is also SAPP deputy president, said the government must take action against foreigners whose paticulars were on fake identification documents including MyKads seized in numerous busts on syndicates involved in document falsification.

He said he never heard of any action taken against those individuals whose photos and personal particulars were found on the seized documents.

“There must already be hundreds or even thousands of such documents seized by our enforcement authorities in numerous raids on syndicates, but I don't see any action taken,” he said.

Mojimbun, who is Sepangar MP, said this in congratulating Upko for raising the issue of ICs granted to illegal immigrants during the party’s convention.

He nevertheless questioned why the Barisan Nasional government is not taking action against those found with such documents and also why scores of Sabahans born before Merdeka Day are still having problems getting citizenship.

“Most of these true Sabahans did not get citizenship yet foreigners from nearby countries can easily obtain Malaysian citizenship,” he said.

Mojimbun cited the case of his surname being used by foreigners and yet despite reports no action has been taken. “Even my query on this particular matter was left unanswered,” he said.

He said that he was informed that the National Registration Department (NRD) was currently engaged in registering those living on the islands around Lahad Datu and Semporna.

It is also known, he said, that people from other districts too came for the registration. - FMT
