Najib: Meeting with MPs to get feedback and prepare Barisan for polls

PUTRAJAYA: Today’s special meeting between Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Barisan Nasional MPs is geared towards preparing the coalition for the next general election.

The Prime Minister revealed that the meeting was for him to hear first-hand the situation on the ground and to issue directives to Barisan elected representatives.

He said the meeting was part of the Barisan’s political transformation effort and he also wanted to get feedback from the MPs.

Only one way : Najib gesturing to reporters while expressing his reasons for meeting Barisan elected representatives at Putrajaya Friday.

“The meeting is for them to see me and I want to see them.

“I need to tell them what to do. I also need to know their views and the situation in their constituencies,” he said when asked about the meeting at a press conference here yesterday.

The meeting, which will begin in the morning, will be held at the Putra World Trade Centre.

Asked if the meeting was to discuss preparations for the general election, Najib said: “Everything is geared towards the general election because we want to be re-elected.”

He said the main priority of the Barisan was to serve the people and let them decide who to elect when the general election was held.

On a dinner which he and PAS leaders had with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Dec 24, Najib said the function was on the invitation of Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin.

“We attended the meeting out of respect for the invitation from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“I do not want to comment further ... The Yang di-Pertuan Agong wished it to be a private meeting and I have to respect the request,” he said. - Star
