Partyless Sng lets BN decide his political fate

He says that his commitment to bring more development to the people in Pelagus is still strong.

KUCHING: Partyless Pelagus assemblyman Larry Sng will leave his political fate to the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership and people to decide following Parti Rakyat Sarawak’s (PRS) refusal to have him defend the seat in the coming state election.

Sng, who was sacked by PRS for insubordination, said today his commitment to bring more development to the people since entering politics in 2001 still remained.

“My heart is always in Pelagus. That is where my family is from and I will serve the people all the way till the day they decide I should not serve them anymore,” Sng, who is also State Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office said after announcing the state-level Youth Gathering 2011 to be held here on March 18.

Last week, PRS president Dr James Masing said the decision to get a new candidate for Pelagus was made in the interest of BN and nothing personal against Sng, as all the nine seats allocated to PRS belonged to the party and not to any individual.

Obviously referring to Masing’s statement that it was up to Sng where he would like to go provided that other parties were prepared to take him, Sng said: “I leave it to the political masters and people to decide what is the future that they have in store for me.”

Sng, whose partyless status did not affect his ministerial appointment, said he was working towards ensuring that issues on the ground were being referred to the relevant authorities as Pelagus still needed a lot of development.

Having first contested under the now deregistered Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) when he replaced his father, incumbent Sng Chee Hua, in 2001, he was, however, tight-lipped about standing under an alternative banner this time around.

He stood on a PRS ticket in the May 2006 state election but was sacked in 2007 following an internal leadership crisis, which saw the party split into two factions with him leading the rival faction.

Apart from Pelagus, PRS has been allocated eight other seats, namely Baleh, Kakus, Ngemah, Tamin, Sri Aman, Batang Ai, Belaga and Balai Ringin.

In the last state election, PRS lost Ngemah, which is currently held by Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) state chairman Gabriel Adit Demong, who had stood as an independent.
