KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Liew Vui Keong has appointed 11 leaders from various divisions across the state as supreme council members of the party.
He also appointed Sri Tanjung division chairman Mok Kiong and Karamunting division chairman Lim Kai Min as the fourth and fifth vice-presidents.
The two posts fell vacant following the resignations of Peter Pang and Isaac Pang from LDP in September last year.
The first, second and third vice-presidents are Lim Ming Hoo, Peter Chin Kee Yong and Assistant Infrastructure Development Minister Pang Yuk Ming respectively.
Pang, who is Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Youth and Sports Minister, quit LDP after LDP deputy president Chin Su Phin publicly declared that the party could no longer work and cooperate with Chief Minister Musa Aman.
Chin said the party had lost confidence in Musa as he had failed to discharge his duties as the Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman in resolving several important issues raised by LDP leaders.
Among the issues which LDP leaders had raised were the controversial halting of the on-going construction of the Goddess of the Sea (Mazu) statue in Kudat and the expulsion of several community leaders in the district by the Kudat district chief from Sabah Umno.
LDP secretary-general Teo Chee Kang today disclosed that Liew, who is also Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, exercised his presidential discretion as provided under the party constitution in making the appointments during the LDP supreme council meeting recently.
“All appointments were unanimously accepted by the supreme council. This exercise has brought many young professionals and qualified leaders, including a lawyer and a quantity surveyor, into the party’s central leadership.
“With the number of supreme council members increased from 26 to 37, it is now a full board speaking for the people across the state. It will further bolster the party’s struggle for the betterment of the people,” Teo added.
The newly appointed supreme council members are division chairmen Chen Vui En (Lahad Datu), Kwan Wing Hung (Tungku), Ting Hoei Ming (Usukan) and Ng Tet Hau (Malalap).
Others include deputy chairmen Charles Pang Su Pin (Elopura) and Bernard Chung (Apas), vice- chairmen Peter Chang Yun Hin (Api-Api), Robert Lee Chiew Fah (Tanjung Papat) and Tanjong Kapor division Youth leader Chiang Bhat and Elopura’s Tsang Hieng Yee. Also named was Tanjung Aru division secretary Lim Young Peing. - FMT
