No government lasts forever, Hadi warns Umno

PAS president Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang has accused Barisan Nasional-led Federal government of trying to engineer a coup in Selangor by sparking the current crisis surrounding the appointment of the State Secretary.

“The UMNO-BN government is trying to take over the Selangor state government by using administrative means to create uneasiness in the state administration, all with uncivilised and undemocratic method,” said Hadi in a statement to Harakahdaily.

Hadi said the crisis was rooted in Federal government’s ignorance and arrogance, by not respecting Selangorians' choice of Pakatan Rakyat as the state government.

“In the last election, the people elected Pakatan Rakyat as the legitimate government in Selangor. Based on the same basic principles, the agency in charge of the public service at the Federal level should respect the people’s desire,” said Hadi.

The Chief Secretary to the government Mohd Sidek Hassan had earlier bypassed Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, by announcing a pro-UMNO official Khusrin Munawi as the new state secretary.

Hadi said the government should be ethical when making such an appointment and must take into consideration the needs of the Selangor state government.

Hadi recalled the 2009 take-over of the Perak state government by the BN, and said the events in Selangor seemed to be a prelude to the what happened there.

Hadi warned UMNO that such a move would not guarantee BN to remain as the ruling party.

"No government will last forever, and that includes UMNO-BN,” said Hadi.

Khalid: Emergency sitting soon

Meanwhile, Khalid did not budge from his stand that the appointment of Khusrin was not final, saying the Selangor exco's attendance at Khusrin’s oath of loyalty ceremony did not mean the state government was changing its view.

Instead, Khalid said their presence proved the state administration's loyalty and affection to the Sultan.

“Khusrin will still not be allowed to take the oath of secrecy in front of the MB,” said Khalid after attending the event.

He added that Selangor speaker Teng Chang Kim had been told to hold an emergency sitting to amend the state constitution so that the powers to appoint the State Secretary, legal advisor and financial officer would revert to the state.
