Reports lodged against reps for insulting Indian Muslims, Sultan

KUALA LUMPUR: One political party and two NGOs lodged reports against two state representatives for insulting Indian Muslims and the Sultan of Selangor at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters here today.

PPP Indian Muslim bureau wing leader, Thajudeen Mohideen, along with Malaysian Muslim People’s Coalition (IRIMM) president Amir Amsaa Alla Pitchay and members of Malaysian Indian Muslim Council (MIM), lodged the reports.

The first report was made against Komtar representative Ng Wei Aik of DAP for allegedly uttering the words, “Tutup kedai, balik India” (close shop, return to India) to a restaurant owner and workers in Penang on Jan 5.

“The statement uttered by the Komtar rep indicates that he is a racist. It is an uncivilised and rude action,” Thajudeen told reporters after lodging the report.

“We want him to apologise to all Indian Muslims,” he added.

IRIMM secretary Zainol Abidin Ahmad said that Ng was vengeful and was not satisfied with some of the restaurant operators.

“He has ignored the norms of a politician. If he acts like these, we will rise.”

Another member of the group, Rafi Mohd Sharif, said they may hand over a protest memorandum to the DAP headquarters soon.

Two days ago, Utusan Malaysia reported that Ng had used the words against the owner of Restoran Nasi Kandar Mohamed Aliya, Syed Kassali Mohamed Aliyar, during an argument.

It was reported that Ng uttered the offensive words to Syed Kassali after Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) enforcement officers seized chairs and tables from the restaurant.

The officers made the seizure after an accident between two cars near the premises at about 10pm. Following the accident, Ng called MPPP which despatched its officers to the scene.

Political fray

A second police report was lodged against Sri Muda PKR rep, Shuhaimi Shafiei, for allegedly insulting the Sultan of Selangor over the appointment of state secretary Khusrin Munawi.

Amir Amsaa said that the report was lodged because they were disappointed with Shuhaimi who questioned Khusrin’s appointment.

“He showed disrespect to the sultan by making statements in his blog. His action of dragging the sultan into the political fray cannot be accepted by the people.”

Khusrin’s appointment as state secretary was mired in controversy because he was not the choice of Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim.

Khalid alleged that Khusrin was an Umno agent who would destabilise the state administration.

The sultan consented to the appointment of Khusrin and Khalid reacted by calling for a boycott of the oath-taking ceremony.

Subsequently, the menteri besar attended the ceremony under protest . - FMT
